Luminous Ground

Luminous Ground is Marcus Weber's first solo exhibition at Domus Picturae and the most complete presentation to date of his digital light prints. Working from photographs, field recordings and weather data gathered over three winters in the Alps and the far north, Weber builds landscapes that exist between memory and signal.

The exhibition opens with Alpine Echo Field and Forest of Breathing Lines, two large prints in which peaks and trees are rendered as rhythmic strokes of light that pulse like quiet respiration. A second group of works turns to the sky: Aurora Syntax transforms atmospheric data into sweeping gradients that recall the northern lights, alive, coded and ephemeral.

A new series made for the exhibition, Ground Truth, pairs each print with the raw data it was generated from, displayed on small screens beside the work. The gesture is not a reveal so much as an invitation: to see how much of a landscape survives its translation into numbers, and how much is added back by the eye.
